About Our Placements

About Our Placements

We offer clinical counselling placements to trainee and qualified counsellors, working with a range of modalities such as person centred, integrative and psychodynamic, within our low cost counselling service. Placement counsellors work with clients aged 18+ experiencing mild to moderate mental health issues and common life problems, clients who have been subjected to domestic violence, and clients who have perpetrated abuse. The presenting issues counsellors work with will depend on their current experience and training stage.

We ask that counsellors are able to commit to a minimum of 1 year on placement with us.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at contact@thealteringgroup.co.uk if you cannot find an answer to your question.

We offer an enriching and supportive placement experience, working in a culturally competent organisation, that equips you with the skills and support needed to grow through your training and set yourself up for a successful career as a counsellor. You’ll have the opportunity to work with clients on both a short-term and long-term basis, gaining experience with a wide range of presenting issues, including but not limited to depression and anxiety, trauma and PTSD, grief and loss, relationship difficulties and abuse.

We provide high-quality group supervision and regular CPD training opportunities to support your professional development. You’ll also have access to line management/managerial supervision alongside your clinical supervision, ensuring you feel thoroughly supported throughout your placement.

For those interested, we offer the optional opportunity to complete assessments, to further develop your experience and skills.

We understand that waiting for placement offers can be frustrating, so we pride ourselves on keeping things moving at a quick pace while ensuring a thorough, supportive recruitment and onboarding process.

Once an offer is made, placements are subject to a DBS check and two satisfactory references.

The timeline can vary depending on how quickly these are completed, but typically, the process takes 2 to 4 weeks. As soon as we have everything in place, we move forward with your induction and placement start, ensuring you can begin your journey with us as smoothly as possible.

Biweekly group supervision is provided free of charge by The Altering Group. We partner with highly experienced and accredited supervisors, to provide the highest quality supervision.

We ensure the supervision hours provided are in line with the BACP's requirements for supervision for trainee counsellors.
