We offer clinical counselling placements to trainee and qualified counsellors, working with a range of modalities such as person centred, integrative and psychodynamic, within our low cost counselling service.
Placement counsellors work with clients aged 18+ experiencing mild to moderate mental health issues and common life problems, clients who have been subjected to domestic violence, and clients who have perpetrated abuse. The presenting issues counsellors work with will depend on their current experience and training stage.
You will work remotely (by video, and occasionally telephone) with 4 clients per week.
Biweekly group supervision, monthly line management, and access to an on demand CPD library is provided as part of your placement.
You will gain experience working with a broad range of clients and presenting issues, in both short and longer-term therapeutic work.
Our low cost counselling service offers counselling sessions during weekdays, including evenings (until 9pm), and weekends.
Supervision and line management sessions are run within service hours also.
During your placement you will also have access to the Counselling Tutor's CPD library, with an extensive range of on demand training courses.
There are also additional training sessions offered on a quarterly basis.
Throughout the placement, there are optional opportunities to work in more specialised areas, and to support with initial assessments, to gain further experience.
We offer biweekly supervision in groups of up to 4, covering the BACP's requirement for supervision hours. Each group is faciliated by 1 or 2 experienced BACP registered or accredited supervisors.
Our groups run on weekday or weekend evenings between 6-8pm.
Your line manager and safeguarding lead are available to contact for support during office hours.
Our counsellors work with 4 clients per week. We ask that you attend biweekly group supervision, and monthly line management meetings.
We also ask that counsellors are able to commit to 12 months on placement with us. If you choose to leave the placement before that time, we reserve to right to not sign off your placement hours with us.
You are able to continue on placement beyond 12 months if you wish to.

We provide counselling placements for trainees at different stages of their training, which we have organised into two categories. Both placement categories are part of our low-cost counselling service.

Counsellors in this category will be working with mild to moderate mental health difficulties and common life problems (such as stress, low mood, bereavement, and relationship difficulties).
Counsellors in this category will be working with presenting issues described in catagory 1, in addition to more complex diffiiculties (such as trauma and abuse).
Once you’ve submitted an application, a member of our team may contact you for an informal conversation. This gives us the opportunity to learn a little more about you, your training and modality, and to explore whether the placement feels like the right fit for both you and our service.
Following your application, you may be invited to a formal interview, and will be offered a range of dates and times to choose from, to ensure there is an option that suits you. You will be informed in advance who your interviewer will be.
The interview will focus on understanding your motivations, your training to date, and your skills and experience. This will include discussion of your modality, contracting with clients, working within diversity, and managing risk.
If you require any reasonable adjustments to support you in the selection process, please let us know at any stage. It's important to us that the process is accessible for all applicants.
If you are offered a placement with us, you will meet with someone from our team to discuss your onboarding journey. Getting your placement started usually takes around 2 - 4 weeks, dependent on DBS and reference checks. We know that you'll be keen to get started, so we try our best to make this process as speedy as possible!
As part of the onboarding process, you'll be provided with some agreements for you and your training provider to sign. We will check your existing DBS, or complete a new check if needed, and request 2 references. We will also get you set up on our database, create an organisational email address for you, and give you access to the extensive CPD library available during your placement.
We do kindly ask that our placement counsellors make a one time £7.99 contribution, which covers 3% of our set up costs to get you set up with all the above (excluding new DBS checks).
As part of your onboarding process, you will complete an induction which provides you with all the information you need to know about your placenent within our service, including working online/by telephone. You will be provided a mixture of materials including online video modules, and have a one-to-one discussion with your line manager to ensure you feel confident with all the information.
You will have access to all the induction materials throughout your placement, to refer back to if needed.
